2022 – 2023 Oregon Good Sam Directors
Hello, and thank you for visiting our Oregon Good Sam website! We are the newly elected State Directors for 2022-2023 and are pleased and excited to fill this position for the next two years. Camping has been a favorite activity of ours for over 24 years as a couple; in fact, Bill has been RV camping with his family since he was a toddler, so it was only fitting that we should join Oregon Good Sam. We have met so many wonderful people and incredible staff members, along with tireless volunteers for our rallies. Like so many others, our organization has also suffered due to Covid-19, but we are determined to lift it back up to where it was prior to the pandemic. We are hopeful to be able to resume the state events this year that unfortunately have been canceled the past two years. We are also working diligently to provide mandated Covid-19 protocols for our members at all events. Many people have purchased RVs in the past two years to enjoy safe, contact-free vacationing and may not be aware of Oregon Good Sam. Advertising and word of mouth are our best tools for getting the word out to RVers in our state. Making new friends and camping opportunities are some of the reasons why people join Oregon Good Sam. In other words, it’s just plain FUN !!
Our organization is made up of separate chapters located around the state. Chapters are free to plan, organize and carry out their own activities, which often consist of camping trips, luncheons, Christmas parties, and charitable work. Chapter dues are nominal and determined by each chapter. Oregon Good Sam offers three state rallies each year … the Westerners Round Up in Lincoln City, the Samboree in Rickreall, and the Wy-East Pioneers Pow Wow in Hood River. Rallies typically offer fellowship, shared meals, craft sessions, RV-relevant seminars, auctions, card game tournaments, outdoor games (weather permitting) and more. To borrow a motto used by a great friend and fellow staff member … “What you get out of Oregon Good Sam is what you put into it.” Getting involved in a chapter and becoming a member of Oregon Good Sam is an enjoyable activity that can be shared by all RV enthusiasts.
There are benefits to belonging to Oregon Good Sam. In 1997, Camping World was purchased by Good Sam Holdings, Inc. and Gander RV was purchased in 2017. Good Sam members receive retail discounts at these outlets, along with camping discounts at Good Sam parks and campgrounds throughout the U.S. and Canada, fuel savings at select locations, propane discounts, free dump service at select locations, RV rentals and RV loans. In addition, they offer plans for Roadside Assistance, Extended Service plans, Travel Assistance, Tire & Wheel Protection and Insurance. Good Sam also has a Rewards Visa Credit Card. We publish a monthly emailed newsletter for our membership entitled “The Drifter” which contains camping tips for first time RV buyers and seasoned campers, chapter news, memorials, tidbits of interesting ideas, photos, etc. These can also be found on this website monthly.
